Saddle Fit Check
Having a correctly fitted saddle is important for your horse's health and soundness as well as your comfort, too.
Equine Ergonomist
An equine ergonomist is trained in checking fit of saddle to both horse and rider
This image shows basic mapping for a fit check.
We perform fit checks statically, to be sure it fits before performing a dynamic fit check (being ridden with)
We explain why it does or does not fit.
Note that we can only do adjustments to adjustable saddles that do not require a press. We can only adjust those with interchangeable head plates or an adjustment mechanism
Saddle Fitting
Why get your saddle fit checked?
When a saddle doesn't fit the horse, it causes at the least discomfort and at most severe pain, it can block movement and cause damage to the scapula, spine and nerves.
When the saddle doesn't fit you as the rider it can also cause an inability to sustain a good position, being able to find good balance and at worst also pain during or after having ridden in it.
Is your horse girthy?
Does your horse pin its ears when you approach with the saddle?
Does your horse not want to move under saddle?
Does your horse show unwanted behaviors, being suddenly spooky, or doing those other things we dislike??
Do you have pain in areas you'd rather not speak of?
Do your hips hurt during or after riding?
All of these may be symptoms of a saddle that does not fit your horse , and/or you.
Terrie is a trained Equine Ergonomist
Terrie worked with Jochen Schleese doing saddle fit clinics for many years. Jochen taught her how to perform saddle fit checks in order to be able to assist him on very busy fitting clinc days. He bestowed an unofficial title of 'equine ergonomist' upon her after she'd assisted in fittings for many years. Schleese Saddlery later opend an education department, and Jochen created a formal Equine Ergonomist course. There are two levels, the first being the Equine Ergonomist, and the Certified Equine Ergonomist. Terrie has successfully completed this formal course as an Equine Ergonomist. Note that she is not a Certified EE (CEE) at this time, but she is trained and has experience in performing saddle fit checks for both horse and rider.
